Labyrinth Ontario presents: Lamia Yared at Aga Khan Museum!

September 01, 2019

Join the Labyrinth Musical Workshop Ontario to celebrate the 5th-year anniversary of the Aga Khan Museum! The Museum is throwing a big anniversary First Five Fest party between August 31st and September 1st, 2019 with a lot of cross-cultural music and activities and we are thrilled to present one of the artists!

Lamia Yared, a powerful Arabic singer and oud player born in Lebanon, is coming all the way from Montreal to enchant you with her beautiful voice and interpretations of classical Arabic chants.
We are very proud to present her to Toronto accompanied by two other major Montreal talents, Naeem Shanwar and Ziya Tabassian.

Lamia Yared - voice, oud
Naeem Shanwar - qanun
Ziya Tabassian - percussion

Born in Lebanon, Lamia Yared grew up in Montreal. During her travels to Greece, Turkey and Lebanon, she met renowned masters in Arab and Turkish classical music, and thus refined the art of Eastern chant and Oud playing. Lamia shares repertoires composed between the 15th and the 19th centuries during the Ottoman era: Arab classical music from Greater Syria and Egypt, as well as Turkish classical chants.

Lamia Yared works on the Canadian Scenes with several collaborations, as well as Ensemble Zaman, which she founded in 2013. She has performed at the French Institute in Turkey, at Montreal’s Maisons de la Culture, as well as Vancouver Island Festival, Caravan World Rhythms, Festival Accès Asie, Maison de la Syrie, Festival des Traditions du Monde de Sherbrooke and Festival du Monde Arabe. She has also participated for benefit concerts with diverse causes such as Amnesty International and Syrian Kids Foundation.
Lamia is releasing her first album in the Fall of 2019!
